This week, author and former police chief James E. Craig traveled to Miami Beach as part of his ongoing national engagement tour promoting his latest book, Beyond the Badge: Leadership Lessons from a Life in Law Enforcement.
During the visit, Chief Craig held strategic conversations focused on public safety, transformational leadership and the evolving demands of modern policing.
Craig was invited to Miami Beach by Duravent CEO Simon Davis and members of his executive leadership team. The discussion centered on Craig’s leadership philosophy, organizational culture, and proven methods for building trust, accountability, and resilience within law enforcement agencies and private-sector organizations.
While in Miami Beach, Craig also met with Mayor Steven Meiner for a wide-ranging conversation addressing the themes explored in his book. The two leaders discussed policing in the city, the importance of community engagement, and collaborative strategies to strengthen officer morale and public confidence.
Craig expressed his gratitude for the invitation and the opportunity to engage directly with civic, business, and policy leaders who share a commitment to innovation and effective service.
“This week was a powerful reminder that leadership matters everywhere — in policing, in the private sector, and in City Hall,” Craig said. “I’m honored to be welcomed by leaders committed to building stronger, safer, and more united communities.”
Craig’s Miami Beach visit marks the latest milestone in a developing national conversation inspired by Beyond the Badge, as he continues to share real-world lessons learned throughout his historic career.
